Get Yourself A Kendo Calendar With Beautiful Kendo Watercolor Paintings
Thank you! We have closed the application process. See you next year!
Just take a look at the pictures below!
One of my fellow kendo friends, Hiroaki Okazaki, has this idea to put his arts and calendar together. Needless to say, his drawings are excellent. Simply I think these are very nice. Don’t you think so? In addition to the quality of the drawings, let me talk about this calendar.
- The calendar is very practical. Drawings and calendars are separated and there will be a lot of space for you to write down your schedule.
- Due to the quality of the drawings, that motivates you to leave your office and go to the dōjō. (maybe bad for your boss??)
- The calendar introduces five virtues of samurai swordsmanship. So you can not only enjoy the drawings but also you can learn of the calendar.
- The printing quality will be high so you can keep the drawings have them framed or a put them on the wall off your office/room.
If you’re like me, I can see you looking at the calendar during your office hours and fantasize about kendo
Introducing the artist after all you and I are buying from him!
I personally know him because he is a member of the Federation I belong to, East Central US Kendo Federation (ECUSKF), and he was a member of the official ECUSKF team for All US Kendo Tournament 2011. Some of you might have seen him at the tournament.
His profession is an architect and also a water-color painter. He is an official member of an international organization of sketchers, The Urban Sketchers. Not only his kendo watercolor paintings but also those of buildings are well recognized.
He drew the moments of kendo trainings without losing the dynamics of kendō. I believe artists without kendo experience cannot simply draw like him. You can actually see the motion in his drawings. I am not an artist or someone who has a great sense of arts but I can see kendo essences in his drawings!
I must value of this. He designed a T-shirt to make a donation to Japan after the earthquake and tsunami early this year. Over 500 T-shirts were sold. If the design was bad, it would not have sold over 500. And he donated US$7,000 to Red Cross.
So these drawings are not just drawings. These drawings are created by someone who actually knows what he’s doing and also who does practice kendō.
This is something we cannot just buy from anywhere and we can keep drawings after we use it as a calendar. How much would you pay for that?
Well in this case, I am a buyer too. So I questioned myself. I would pay $20 for his calendar. And I asked him how much he wanted to charge, US$20.
I think is a good buy and reasonable.
But he told me that because this is his first time, he’ll give us 10% discount. So we can get a calendar with his drawings only for $18.
But this price applies if you show interest right now. You have to sign up to get your calendar for $18.
When 200 calendars are ordered (Not 200 people, 200 calendars), this deal is closed. Also you have to order by October 15
I’m sure some people buy more than one calendar because I’m planning to buy two.
